Julidochromis marksmithi, commonly known as Marksmith's Julie, is a vibrantly colored cichlid endemic to the Tanzanian coast of Lake Tanganyika, specifically around the Kipili region. Water Conditions: Essential to maintain hard, alkaline water with a pH of 7.8–9.0 and temperatures between 73–80°F.
Physical Description
Coloration: It is distinguished by a bright yellow base body color. Markings: Body Stripes: Features two major horizontal dark brown to blackish bands along the body. Nape Stripe: A third, shorter stripe extends from the nape about halfway along the back. Cheek Stripe: A dark, sometimes irregular stripe runs from the mouth to the pectoral fin base, a key feature that distinguishes it from species like J. ornatus or J. dickfeldi.Fins: The dorsal fin has a broad dark band with a submarginal light blue stripe along the upper edge. Size: Typically reaches a maximum length of about 6.3 cm (2.5 inches) in the wild, though aquarium specimens are often reported between 8–12 cm (3–5 inches). Females are generally larger than males.
